Mother's Beach Playground is a playground with activities for children of all ages located on the beach. 260 Lord's Point Road, Kennebunk. THIS PLAYGROUND IS CURRENTLY CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO STORM DAMAGE.
Lower Village Park has a wiffle ball diamond, baseball fields, a basketball court, open fields and a playground. 159 Port Road, Kennebunk.
Lloyd G. Nedeau Memorial Park has baseball fields, basketball court, open fields, playground and picnic area. 1 Clear Brook Crossing, Kennebunk.
West Kennebunk Recreation Field has baseball and softball fields, basketball courts, open fields, a playground and tennis courts. 39 Holland Road, Kennebunk.
Rotary Park / Beachwood Park has tennis courts, basketball court, playground, picnic area. 104 Beachwood Avenue, Kennebunkport.
Cape Porpoise Fireman’s Park has softball/Little league baseball field, picnic area and a playground. Mills Road, Kennebunkport.
Lafayette Park is an open field and picnic area that has concerts in the summer. 9 Storer St., Kennebunk.
Rogers Pond has a covered pavilion with picnic tables, benches, carry-in boat access, fishing, open space, and access to the Mousam RIver. 49 Water St., Kennebunk.
Skateboard Park has a half pipe, quarter pipes, launch ramp, and a pyramid. 30 Factory Pasture Lane, Kennebunk.
The Waterhouse Center is a covered, open air structure that has an ice skating rink in the winter and pickleball in the warmer months. It also hosts many town events. 55 Main Street, #51, Kennebunk.
Kennebunkport Ice Rink at Crow Hill is a seasonal outdoor rink located at 25 School Street, Kennebunkport.
Kennebunkport Disc Golf is behind Kennebunkport Parks and Rec and goes through the woods for nine holes. 25 School Street, Kennebunkport.
Roll Um Easy is ACT's mountain bike flow trail, which is the equivalent to a biking playground for people of all ages. There are banked turns, smooth rolling bumps, and all other features needed to continue momentum no matter your skill set. 257 Limerick Road, Arundel.
Beaches
Mother's Beach has life guards, porta-potties, a wheelchair mat, and a playground. Parking permits are required in season. 263 Beach Ave, Kennebunk.
Middle Beach is the rocky beach in between Mother's Beach and Gooch's Beach. Parking permits are required in season. Beach Ave, Kennebunk.
Gooch's Beach is the largest beach in Kennebunk, there are life guards and porta-potties. Dogs are allowed per posted rules. Parking permits are required in season and available via kiosks along the beach. Beach Ave, Kennebunk.
Goose Rocks Beach is three miles of perfect sand to walk, run, and play in the sun. Parking permits are required and must be purchased on site. There are hotels and shops and stores along the shore as well. Kings Highway, Kennebunkport.
Colony Beach is a rocky shoreline beach in The Port. No parking permit is required. Ocean Ave, Kennebunkport
Heaven Swamp Park is more of a waterfront to explore that has sand and rocks. A great place to explore quietly, and on a clear day you can see Walker's Point! 253 Ocean Ave, Kennebunkport.
Trails & Paths
Kennebunk Land Trust was founded in 1972 to help preserve natural spaces in the area and is one of Maine's oldest working land trusts. There are currently over 3,400 acres to explore. "KLT works for you, your family, and for future generations. By preserving the special natural identity of Kennebunk and Lyman, the Trust ensures a legacy of environmental beauty where residents and visitors can replenish their souls, children can experience the joy of discovery, and animals and plants can live out their ancient cycles of life." Every month the KLT has guided walks along different trails, and partners with the library for crafts, activities and books that match the theme.
Kennebunk Plains Wildlife Management Area, sometimes called "Kennebunk Plains Preserve," is a three mile easy walking roas/path on over 2,000 acres. There are blueberry barrens, rare birds, plants and reptiles to see. Be sure to go in August and September to see the Northern Blazing Star in bloom! 401 Webber Hill Road, Kennebunk.
Alewive Woods Preserve is over 625 acres of easy to moderate trails through the woods and around a 45 acre pond with lots of wildlife to be on the lookout for. 174 Cole Road, Kennebunk.
Clark Preserve is 90 acres of forest along the Kennebunk River with an easy, .75 mile trail. Moose, deer, black bear, fox, owls, and many other bird species have been spotted here! It is adjacent to the Eastern Trail so parking is available at the Kennebunk Elementary School and you can do both for an extended adventure. 177 Alewive Road, Kennebunk.
Mousam River Wildlife Sanctuary 38 acres in the center of Kennebunk with an easy to moderate .75 mile trail. After a steep entrance you'll walk along the river and through the woods on a trail with many scenic vistas. 48 Water Street, Kennebunk.
Sea Road Preserve is a short, .25 mile trail that connects to Madelyn Marx and the town-owned Bridle Path, all of which are easy walks as it follows an old trolley bed. Parking is at the Sea Road School. 29 Sea Road, Kennebunk.
Madelyn Marx Preserve was named for KLT's founder and is a .4 mile walk between Sea Road Preserve and the Bridle Path. Be on the look out for wildlife while you follow this easy path! 29 Sea Road, Kennebunk.
Wonder Brook/Murphy Preserve is a moderate 2.5 mile trail on properties owned by KLT and the town of Kennebunk. You will walk through woods, over streams, and the banks of the Kennebunk River near the head of tide. There are picnic tables for you to enjoy as well. 16 Plummer Lane, Kennebunk.
The Secret Garden is 40 acres of forest and wetland with all the exciting things bogs have to offer. The trail is a 1.5 mile loop ranging from easy to moderate. Be sure to keep an eye out for beavers! THIS TRAIL IS CURRENTLY CLOSED.
Strawberry Island is accessible only at low tide as it is fully submerged any other time. It was once home to a farm but is now a fun, rocky space to explore. Due to the terrain this is considered a moderate adventure. Turn onto Great Hill Road and follow until about the point it takes a sharp right, you will see the KLT sign and some parking just beyond that. 33 Great Hill Road, Kennebunk.
Butler Preserve is an easy, .3 mile trail that leads to "Picnic Rock" on the bank of the Kennebunk River. 71 Old Port Road, Kennebunk.
For All Forever Preserve is 111 acres of forest, wetland, fields, and river frontage. The trail is easy to moderate and 1.1 miles long. Parking as available across from Wakefield Road on Webber Hill Road, Kennebunk.
Oxbow Preserve is an easy to moderate .9 mile loop through the woods and along the Mousam River. 7 Spiller Drive, Kennebunk.
Tributary Preserve is the newest KLT proerty and is currently being constructed.
Hope Woods is 72 acres of fields, forest and a pond behind Hope Cemetery, just outside the center of town. There are 2 miles of trails total, the largest is all access. There are several entrances located at Wood Pond Lane, Fletcher Street, and Woodhaven Drive. The main entrance with parking is at the back of Hope Cemetery and is opened seasonally. Wiggins Pond is the pond located in Hope Woods Trails. You can get direct access by parking at 20 Wood Pond Lane, Kennebunk
Bridle Path is a two mile path that goes along the Mousam River and connects to the KLT owned properties Sea Road Preserve and Madelyn Marx Preserve. 29 Sea Road, Kennebunk.
Kennebunkport Conservation Trust "is dedicated to preserving land for use by current and future generations, and to managing properties in a way that reflects the natural and cultural heritage of Kennebunkport." Their properties span over 2,800 acres with over 27 miles of trails, islands, beaches, and more for public enjoyment.
Emmons Preserve is the homestead of Steve and Natalie Emmons; their dream was to have their property provide a place for children to explore nature. KCT has built their headquarters here, where you can enjoy lunch on their deck before or after your adventure. The trails around the property go thought the woods and along the Batson River, there is even a learning trail and Labyrinth! 57 Gravely Brook Road, Kennebunkport.
Smith Preserve is over 10 miles of trails on over 1,100 acres of land. The preserve is primarly a wildlife habitate so be on the lookout for lots of animals as you walk along the trails, over bridges, through the woods and have a bite on one of the "picnic rocks." The trailhead is labeled as the "Edwin L Smith Preserve Trailhead." 76 Guinea Road, Kennebunkport.
James Woods is a one mile long trail briming with history. As you walk through the woods you will be able to view Mast Cove, cross a 25 foot ravine, and cross a bridge that goes over a fire break from the 1947 Great Fires. Park in the public lot, the entrance is to the right and across the road. 25 North Street, Kennebunkport.
Meadow Woods Preserve is currently being conserved by KCT and is not open for recreation yet.
Arundel Conservation Trust aims "to conserve Arundel's unique, natural, recreational and scenic resources to foster a strong, vibrant community." There are several trails open for recreation as well as more being worked on now!
Arundel Community Trails connect the Town Hall with the Eastern Trail and provide biking only trails along with the walking/biking trail. They have partnered with local kiddos to install six fairy houses along the trail, so be sure to keep an eye out, or bring something to add! 257 Limerick Road, Arundel.
Welch Woods is an easy, .5 mile loop through the woods and the shore of the Kennebunk River. There is seating available along the trail. 227 River Road, Arundel.
The Eastern Trail network is an all access greenway that spans Casco Bay to Kittery, Maine. The organization is working to make the entire trail off road, right now they have three large stretches complete. The section in our area is 6 miles one way between Kennebunk and Biddeford. You will go through woods, fields, over the highway and over streams and rivers. There is trail access along the entire trail, but the trailhead parking is in the parking lot of Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford and Kennebunk Elementary School at 177 Alewive Road, Kennebunk.
Franciscan Monastery has 66 acres that are open to the public from sunrise to sunset. There are all access paved walking trails, gardens, forests, shrines, a pond and views of the river to explore. The trailhead is a path from the Guest House parking lot that leads into a field. 28 Beach Ave., Kennebunk.
Other Outdoor Activities
Narragansett Point is the point between Middle Beach and Gooch's Beach and can be visited at any time. There are burn pits with permits issued on a first come first serve basis at the Fire Department the day you wish to use them. A parking permit is required in season. 149 Beach Ave, Kennebunk.
Blowing Cave Park is a scenic site looking at Walker's Point with a rock formation that causes large sea sprays and wave crashes. 208 Ocean Ave, Kennebunkport.
Grist Mill is a KCT property that has been preserved to help everyone learn about the history of Kennebunkport. Be sure to research "Clem Clark's Boathouse" and "Grist Mills" before you visit so you can know about how the area was used in Colonial times. When you park you can get out and explore Mast Cove as well. 8 Mill Lane, Kennebunkport.
Island Wilderness Camping on the islands of Cape Porpoise are free to use through KCT, just be sure to make a reservation 7 days in advance. There are eight campsites along three of the islands and all have field stone fireplaces and slightly cleared tent sites. You can choose your adventure with sites accessible by a short walk during low tide, or by canoe and agile feet and everything in between. Use the links above to learn more.
Goat Island Lighthouse is another KCT property and while you can't go into it you can view it from the Cape Porpoise Pier. 81 Pier Road, Kennebunkport.
Granny's Garden is a KCT property in the heart of The Port dedicated to Barbara Bush by her family. It is a garden that was inspired by a needlepoint she created and is a lovely stop while you are in town. 51 Ocean Ave, Kennebunkport.
Libraries
Kennebunk Free Library is open Monday through Saturday and has events for children and adults every day. The children's section is on the lower floor with toys and free crafts next to all the books. In the summer, story time is held outside in the Fairy Garden. 112 Main Street, Kennebunk.
Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library is open Monday through Friday and Saturday mornings. They have events almost every day for children and adults. The children's sections wind through the top of the library with lots to explore! 18 Maine Street, Kennebunkport.
Museums & Land Tours
Brick Store Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and focuses on local art, history and culture. It's rotating exhibits focus on the surrounding communities as well as Kennebunk where it is located. There are always educational programs, tours of the town, community events and workshops, as well as preservation projects to learn about. Admission is $5 for those 16 years +. 117 Main Street, Kennebunk.
Museum in the Streets is a self guided walking tour with 25 panels along the way that share information about Kennebunk's History. The tour takes you through the heart of Kennebunk, up Route 1, down Route 1, down Summer Street and along the Bridle Path. Copies of the map and brochure are available at the Kennebunk Town Hall, Kennebunk Free Library, the Brick Store Museum and many local businesses.
Seashore Trolley Museum is open seasonally May through October and for Christmas Prelude. It is the first and largest electric railway museum in the world. You can take a ride on a restored trolley, explore the restored vehicles in the barns, take a Railbike Excursion and visit for special events like Dino Weekend, Pumpkin Patch Trolley, and more! In the summer they have weekly story times and ice cream trolleys. Admission varies based on age and event, but if you plan to go more than once it is worth looking into a membership. 195 Log Cabin Road, Kennebunkport.
Intown Trolley has been providing sightseeing tours of Kennebunkport for over 30 years. Tours run from Memorial Day through Columbus day (longer if weather permits) for about one hour, and you will disembark the trolley once. The cost is $54 per double seat, which fits two passengers, walk-ons are welcome if there is room. There is no parking at the Trolley Stop, so look for parking that is convenient to you and close to 21 Ocean Ave., Kennebunkport.
House Tours at White Column (also called First Families Museum) is guided by the Kennebunkport Historical Society every Saturday. The tour is about 30-40 minutes and takes you thought the first and second floors of the Perkins-Nott family home, complete with original furnishings. Admission is $15 for adults, free for children under 6. There is no parking on site. 8 Maine Street, Kennebunkport.
Historic Walking Tours of Kennebunkport are also guided by the Kennebunkport Historical Society. The tour is about .75 miles around Kennebunkport and lasts around an hour. Admission is $20 per person and there is no parking onsite. 8 Maine Street, Kennebunkport.
Maine Classic Car Museum is open Thursday through Saturday in the off season and is $12 per person. There are over 50 classic cars to learn about in the museum's collection as well as various events happening regularly. 2564 Portland Road, Arundel.
